Motorcycle Roadbook Rally Riding

Roadbook Rally Riding is a competitive motorcycle event. In some forms, it’s a race, such as the Baja Rally, where riders cross difficult terrain to compete in both navigation and riding skills. In our British Columbia version on Vancouver Island, the event takes place on public roads (albeit unpaved, remote, and sometimes no longer maintained) so it’s not a race. It’s a competition of time and distance. Too fast, and you’re penalized. Too slow, likewise, you accumulate penalty points. The winner is the one with the fewest points at the end of the event. I’ve documented my participation in several videos.

For me, it’s mostly a weekend event of camaderie with fellow adventure riding enthusiasts. I like to stay in the group camp, but some people rent a motel room or Air BNB. All types of bikes can participate as long as they are insured and road legal in BC, and moderately capable of tackling some off-road portions. The most challenging sections can be bypassed.
