As I’ve mentioned in my videos, I’m a member of the OnX Ambassador program, which means I get some free swag and a small commission if you use my link to buy a subscription to OnX. I bought my own subscription to OnX as I was testing out various off-road navigation apps, and I found a lot that I liked about it.
First, OnX is dedicated to motorsports enthusiasts. That’s important because the map shows trails marked “no motor vehicles.” Also, OnX has trained volunteers who explore trails, mark them, and rate them on the map. Knowing the rating of a trail before you head out can help you avoid ending up in someone’s off-road rescue video. Also, they provide some information on where you might want to explore when you’re in unfamiliar territory.
Another benefit of OnX is its ease of use. The interface is very intuitive. I never had any difficulty figuring out how to create routes or follow them.
As a motorcyclist, I sometimes feel in the minority, as it seems many OnX users are Jeep drivers whose wheelsets cost more than my bike. But that’s only my ego getting in my way. The reality is that there is an excellent community of off-road enthusiasts who share my passion for getting to remote places using a motor vehicle and want to share that experience.
If you’re interested in trying OnX, my link is below. It has a 7-day trial, so you don’t have to commit before you’ve thoroughly tested it.
